What does 'entrepreneurial success" mean to you? What would have to happen for you to call yourself a business success? Would it take nothing short of "getting rich"? If it does, you may be in for a rude awakening!
Most people only hear what they want to hear. Are you one of those? Do you fall for every "get rich quick" scheme that is presented to you and forget about how unlikely it really is to get rich? If so, you urgently need an attitude adjustment before it breaks your will to succeed.
Becoming rich with your on-line business is indeed an unlikely occurence. Sorry folks! That's the way it is. In that respect, an on-line business isn't any different from an off-line business. An on-line business does have the advantage of lower startup costs. But other than that, the main requirement for success is still the same: focused hard work!
Surprised? You really shouldn't be because you knew that all along, didn't you? You just have to really accept it.
Having said that, I don't want you to get discouraged. Running your own business can be very rewarding in many different ways and can give you an excellent income even if you don't become a millionaire. And ... maybe you might just be the one who does become a millionaire!
So, developing a realistic understanding of what you consider to be "successful" is quite important. It prevents you from chasing unrealizable dreams.
A good definition for personal business success could be the following: "I will consider myself successful if my business provides me with a good standard of living and the potential of an even better one in the future."
Now that you are not striving anymore to be rich overnight does that mean you can be successful without hard work? No, it does not! Even for that degree of success you still have to be willing to learn all the things that make a business blossom. And believe me, there is plenty to learn.
In this regard, here is an important observation: It is not enough to understand your business, you also must learn the skills to implement that understanding.
That may seem like a trivial observation, but you will soon find out that acquiring "theoretical" knowledge, on the one hand, and the skills to successfully apply that knowledge, on the other, are two very different things.
For example, it's one thing to understand how an advertising technique works but it is altogether another to effectively implement that technique so your advertising produces sales.
So let's repeat this one more time:The willingness to learn is an indispensable ingredient of success. Don't waste your time and money if you are not willing to pay your dues.
In summary: (1) Adjust your definition of what constitutes success. Settle for a situation in which you make a good living and have created the potential for more. (2) Be a focused learner and skilled implementer.
With this attitude adjustment I am sure you will become a really successful entrepreneur.
